European Touring Taster Normandy

This trip is designed as a gentle introduction to European Touring. It is a four day excursion into Normandy to sample the culture, the food and wine (in moderation of course) and to visit some of the abundant history of the region.

Each place we visit on this trip is only a short distance from our hotel (max 1hr riding time), so there will be plenty of time to explore Le Touquet. It is probably most famous for its Beach race,  held every February where over 2000 riders, on bikes and quads, race 13km around a circuit for 3.5 hours on the beach consisting of jumps and hollows built in the sand using huge excavators. It is very similar to the Weston Super Mare Beach Race in the UK.

However, it has plenty of other atractions to enjoy: It has miles of sandy beaches, a wide selection of restaurants, a vibrant market and a wide range of historic buildings.

Le Touquet Beach Race

Itinery:

Day One: We will depart mid morning to ride to the Channel Tunnel terminal for our crossing to France. It is then a short trip (approx 1hr) to our base for the next three nights in the beautiful seaside town of Le Touquet.

Day Two: We ride out to a WW2 museum where they prepared the V1 / V2 Flying bombs which were unleashed on the UK during 1944/45.

Day Three: Will be a visit to a War Graves Cemetery which has over 11,000 graves of soldiers from many nations who made the ultimate sacrifice during WW1 & WW2.

Day Four: Will be a morning spent relaxing and then travelling back to Le Shuttle for our return crossing around 14:00.

The evenings will be spent discussing the day and planning tommorrow in the bistro bar at the hotel or you can choose to visit one of the many restaurants which are a short bike ride or taxi trip away in the centre of town.
